Features:
Our Croft tow dolly is built to handle the rigorous demands of heavy use. With a galvanized steel unibody frame, sealed hubs,
torsion axle suspension, and poly fenders this unit is designed for strength and ease of use. It is designed to car cars and
compact trucks up to 4,330 lbs. in weight. A 5,000 lb. rated hitch with a 2" ball is required on the tow vehicle and
the tow vehicle should be at least 1,000 lbs. greater than the vehicle being towed. Nylon ratcheting straps securely hold the
vehicle to the dolly and lights within the fenders meet DOT requirements. This dolly is not capable of hauling any vehicle
exceeding 4,330 lbs. or with tires exceeding 74" in width when measured to the outside of the tires. Because of this, full size
pickup trucks and larger vehicles cannot be towed on a dolly. A minimum of 42" of width between the inside of the two front
tires is also required but this is generally not a problem. While these dollies are typically towed at freeway speeds all the time,
there is a DOT imposed rating of 45 mph maximum speed imposed on any tow dolly unless an auxiliary braking system is used.
Note that not every vehicle is capable of pulling a loaded tow dolly. Unlike traditional trailers there is not very much
tongue weight on a dolly and the vehicle you are towing will not have brakes that function when towing. For this reason you will
need the length and weight of a full size pickup truck or van to use as your tow vehicle. Smaller mid-size trucks and SUVs, even
those with heavy factory tow ratings, just don't have the legs to safely stop and tow a loaded dolly.
