Our orbital floor sander is made by American Sanders. Orbital sanders utilize a 12" x 18" sheet of sandpaper with a hook and loop fastening system that allows the paper to firmly lay in place underneath a rectangular buffing pad while sanding. Orbital sanders use an orbital action to move the paper and are sometimes erroneously referred to as vibrating sanders. The paper moves around in random orbits so it does not return to the same spot each orbit, which results in scratch free sanding. This makes orbital floor sanders a safe bet for sanding any surface without any damage caused by sand scratches. This makes it an ideal sander for parquet flooring, or narrow halls, pantries, or entry ways where cross grain sanding is required. Unlike a drum type sander, this unit does not require the additional rental of a floor edger because it can float right up to the edge of a wall. Also, because it floats it is easy for any size person to use.

Unfortunately, this "safe" approach to sanding is also the least aggressive. It will take a great deal more time to sand an entire room with this unit compared to a regular drum type floor sander. For this reason drum sanders are 10 times more popular than the orbital floor sanders. However, there are applications that drum sanders just aren't suited for and that's when the orbital floor sander comes into play.

While sandpaper costs are not included in the rental rate, our policy is to give you more than enough paper when you pick up the sander. When you return the sander we will only charge you for what you use. This way you don't have to worry about running out of paper in the middle of your project. We also have a video tape available at no extra charge which gives detailed instructions for both sanding and refinishing hardwood floors.
